My Dodo

I never really knew much about the dodo (other than the fact that it was extinct), but today a colleague at work mentioned the dodo and mentioned that it would never walk the face of the planet again...ever...like not even once. for some reason that hit me funny cuz I have never really thought about what extinct means. there will be no jurassic park-like rebirth of the dodo, or any other extinct creature. it is just extremely permanent and saddening to me. I was curious to see if the dodo's extinction was an improvement to earth made by humans or whether they went extinct from natural causes.

i looked it up on wikipedia, best site ever, and they say the reason is not certain, but they suspect that the population was nearly wiped out before humans ever arrived on the island they inhabited. humankind helped the situation out by bringing non-indigenous species that wreaked havoc on there nests onto the island and we needed there forests more than they did so we took them. either way... they are gone... forever... like not even in a zoo. that is a just a strange concept for me. next time you have a drink, pour one for our fallen dodo brothers. here is the link to the wiki entry on the dodo. The strange thing about the dodo is that it states that the Dodo is currently extinct... currently extinct has the connotation to me that they can come back... like migrating birds... i have a feeling they may not make it back.

my running is a bit more on track... i should get over 20 miles again this week so it is good to be back to that. nothing of note other than all my joints seem a bit achy... i think my shoes have gone past there healthy life so I may need to purchase some more. did a run at westtown school tonight with the dodo colleague... beautiful campus.

My First Morning

Today was the first day I was able to get myself out of bed for a run before work since the double trouble probably... which I am thankful for because it turned out to be around 400 degrees today. Only 51 more and all books would have gone up in smoke... sadly it did not happen. Perhaps tomorrow cuz it is supposed to be another scorcher.

I haven't gotten a week above 20 since the double trouble and Bonnaroo. Maybe this week will be my week for 20 again. I would like to be in reasonable shape for the PDR in september and I only have 2 months left. gotta get a move on that whole training thing... oh well.

this has been a truly inspired blog.
