My Curse

So it seems that I may be a bit cursed... or perhaps I am cursing myself. A few days ago, i posted a blog stating that my running has been reasonably consistent. a few weeks in the low 20s, steady improvement in mileage... no joint problems.

Then this past friday night, after a bertucci's binge and a quick hour nap, i awoke with an intense stomach pain. the pain was eerily familiar to a pain I had last summer after an eating binge in New hope. Similar to last summer, I woke up in the middle of the night, as sick as a dog after a bar of toblerone. Finally, at 6 in the morning, i woke up the woman and asked her to go to wawa and purchase a gun to put me out of my misery. In lieu of the gun, she was sweet enough to purchased some pepto, which i pounded for an hour an a half and finally fell back asleep at 8.

So, since the latest stomach episode, i am still trying to get back on the running horse. I tried monday, ran about 1 block until my stomach was pissed. Tuesday, ran about 1.5 miles til my stomach had enough, and today I am hoping for 5 during lunch.

the front wall effort starts this weekend. it should be fun... i need to figure out how to post pictures so i can do a before and after.

My Last Six Weeks

I fear my readership has dwindled since my posts have been scarce, but I feel I must update the world on my past six weeks of running. I feel my report may drop the price of a barrel of sweet crude (sounds tasty) below $70... so I must perservere (sp?).

So within the last 6 weeks I ran the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon which I ran last year as well. The race was pretty ugly for me. My training leading up to the race wasn't great so I didn't really expect too much out of it. I ended up finishing in 1:45:XX, which is about 8 minutes slower than my time last year at the same race, which is my current half marathon PR. The last few races have been disappointing, but the beautiful weather of late has helped my running spirits and the training has been going better in the last couple weeks.

I have integrated some cross-training in the form of basketball to my routine. I have been trying to play a couple times a week to help build some leg strength and hopefully help with the stability of all my joints. who knows if B-ball will help or hurt this, but it is also fun as hell to play. My past few weeks have been consistent at least in the low 20s for mileage, but I think it will give me a good place to start if I am to train for something serious in the fall. The broad street run is coming up in a couple weeks and I am on the fence about running it or not. This has been my favorite run (and best race IMO) to date and I would love to do it again... but it lands on a weekend where I will probably be finishing my retaining wall in the front (remember the test wall in the back last summer... i am starting the full monty in the front next weekend). we will see...

I have been entertaining visions of a sub 4:00 marathon in philly this year...
